All VCU students can benefit from study abroad, including science, technology, engineering and mathematics students. Companies, government agencies, graduate schools and other organizations are looking for STEM students who possess the knowledge of contemporary issues, the ability to function in multidisciplinary teams, and the ability to communicate effectively. Study abroad enhances a STEM student’s studies and increases career prospects. VCU Faculty-led programs, VCU Partnership, and ISEP offer excellent affordable study abroad options for STEM students. For a more extensive list of courses that VCU STEM students have taken in the past, please visit the Pre-approval for Academic Credit section of our website.
In addition, there are a couple of national scholarships that are partial to STEM majors. Both the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and Boren Award for International Study seek to encourage STEM majors to study abroad by granting preference to STEM applicants.Back to top
