Description:  The English Language Program in the Global Education Office at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking adjunct faculty to teach in its intensive ESL program.

This position reports directly to the ELP Director and includes the following responsibilities:

  1. Teach one or more courses.
  2. Attend and participate in ELP faculty and skill committee meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in TESOL or in Applied Linguistics;
  • Graduate coursework in Education, English or related field with a TESOL emphasis/focus/certificate;
  • 1-2 years' experience teaching in an academic preparation intensive university ESL program in the United States;
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU;
  • Experience teaching English as a Second Language;
  • Demonstrated native English language fluency;
  • Evidence of cross-cultural sensitivity; and
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years' experience teaching in an academic preparation intensive university ESL program in the United States;
  • Proven excellence in teaching a variety of skills and proficiency levels to college bound students;
  • Experience with intensive English language program testing and placement of students;
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills;
  • Computer literacy.

Location: VCU Monroe Park Campus

Compensation: $40 an hour
