Description:  The English Language Program in the Global Education Office at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking an ELP tutor to work in the Tutoring Center.

ELP tutors work one-on-one with students in 50-minute tutoring sessions to support and develop students’ writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills. Tutors communicate with ELP faculty by email after each session. In addition, tutors act as the public face of the ELP Tutoring Center and work with students to determine their tutoring needs and schedule appointments using a customized software application. They provide support to organize and maintain a tutoring resource library, and they attend up to two paid meetings or training sessions per semester. Tutors must have skills related to working with language learners.

Additional Details:

  • Fall/Spring hours: Monday-Thursday, 3:15-5:45 p.m., Friday, 11:15-2:45
  • Summer hours may vary
  • Consistent schedule with moderate flexibility (can work fewer than 5 days/week)
  • Center’s operating schedule closely follows the VCU academic calendar

Location: VCU Monroe Park Campus

Compensation: $16/hour
