American Pronunciation

ELP students in classroom

This course is designed to advance the English pronunciation skills of non-native speakers of English. Students will build their fluency, clarity and understanding of spoken English through study and practice of pronunciation features that can be difficult for students from most language backgrounds including syllable and word stress, intonation, rhythm,  and thought groups as they occur in academic, professional and social settings. Extra practice with vowels and consonants will be provided as necessary.

The course combines individual student use of speech recognition technology and individual coaching meetings with the instructor. Speech recognition technology used in this course has sophisticated voice recognition and gives instant feedback. During individual coaching sessions, students’ individual pronunciation difficulties will be addressed based on data gathered from the speech recognition and interpreted by the instructor. The course is organized in modules and it follows a learning approach that makes learning very personal to individual learning needs.
