Job Description: 

The English Language Program (ELP) provides English language support to students who are academically admissible to VCU undergraduate and graduate programs but who need greater English language proficiency for success in an academic environment. The ELP additionally serves individuals who want to improve their language skills for educational, career and/or personal reasons and who may later apply to VCU academic programs.


The ELP is seeking adjunct faculty to teach in its intensive ESL program This position reports directly to the Director and/or Associate Director of the English Language Program and includes the following responsibilities:

● Teach one or more courses;
● Process grade reports as required by the program;
● Schedule specific office hours (included in syllabus) to meet with students;
● Attend and participate in team meetings

 

Required Qualifications

● Master’s degree in TESOL or a related field or a Master’s degree and a TESOL Certificate;
● Experience teaching English as a Second Language at an accredited university;
● Demonstrated native English language fluency;
● Evidence of cross-cultural sensitivity;
● Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU;
● Evidence of strong interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

● 2 or more years’ experience teaching in an academic preparation intensive university ESL program in the United States;
● Proven excellence in teaching a variety of skills and proficiency levels to college-bound students;
● Experience with intensive English language program testing, placement of students, and curriculum;
● Evidence of strong organizational skills;
● Technology literacy.
