VCU is home to one of the most diverse student populations in the country and provides a welcoming academic environment to students from across the globe. We offer a variety of resources that can assist you with the application process, as well as throughout your time as a VCU student.

  • Federal Student Aid
    Find out information regarding financial aid qualifications pertaining to non-U.S. citizens offered by the U.S. Department of Education's office of Federal Student Aid.
    • Eligible Noncitizen Update - Afghans who have been paroled into the US between July 31, 2021, and Sept. 30, 2022 are now eligible to apply for federal financial aid. Those students should submit the FAFSA using the normal process, but will be asked to submit required supplemental documents to VCU via their myVCU portal.
  • Higher Ed Immigration Portal
    A digital platform that integrates data, policies and resources about DACA and undocumented, and refugee students. This site provides information about tuition and financial aid equity for undocumented students.
  • NASFAA Tip Sheet for Refugee and Asylee Students
    Information gathered by the NAFSAA providing answers to questions that can assist refugee and asylee students in determining enrollment in post-secondary education.

  • Directory of Afghanistan Advocacy and Resources
    An overview of Afghanistan-related materials from the Presidents' Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration.

  • WES Gateway Program
    Offers a program that helps individuals who have been displaced as a result of adverse circumstances in their country and have limited proof of their academic achievement.

  • UC Davis Backpack
    Afghan college students and recent graduates can use the UC Davis Backpack for universal academic mobility to curate and store critical academic documentation before these records are destroyed or sequestered.

  • IIE PEER | Platform for Education in Emergencies Response
    The Institute of International Education has compiled educational resources for displaced and refugee students.

  • Keeping the Promise
    A repository of resources for individuals, schools, and communities supporting Afghan newcomers and their education goals.
