Program Description

The English Language Program offers seven sessions per year. These sessions have different start dates. Please review the session dates for the upcoming semesters.

English Language Program offers three levels of study – Level 1 (beginners), Level 2 (intermediate), and Level 3 (advanced). When students complete the program, they receive an English Language Program Certificate. The ELP Certificate allows students to study at Virginia Commonwealth University if they have received Conditional Admission.

Support for students

‌The English Language Program provides support for students as they progress throughout the program. Services we offer include:

  • One-on-one tutoring sessions in all language skill areas. Students may schedule an appointment to meet with a tutor or may be referred for tutoring by an instructor.
  • Language and academic advising to all students in the program.
  • Numerous excursions and activities: trips to nearby attractions, cities, mountains, beaches, and historical landmarks (e.g., Washington, D.C., and Charlottesville).
  • An international community through social and recreational activities offered by the Global Education Office and the University. These include Friendship FamiliesGlobal Cafés, and Conversation Partners, among others.
