Richmond, VA (Aug. 16, 2019) — Virginia Commonwealth University welcomed to campus 143 of its newest international undergraduate and graduate students during its annual International Student Orientation on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Students were involved in all-day activities designed to acclimate them to the university and prepare them for the upcoming fall semester.

"The International Student Orientation introduces new students to important resources both within the Global Education Office and throughout the university," said Nichole Dorton, student engagement coordinator. "It also affords international students the opportunity to connect with their peers and to adjust to new cultural norms prior to starting classes. Ultimately, it helps set our students up for both academic and social success at VCU."

The orientation began with a resource fair presented by campus and student organizations, as well as an introduction to the Global Education Office immigration team ready to assist them throughout their time at VCU. In addition, students attended workshops covering health insurance, campus safety, transportation, VCU's outdoor opportunities and information about great things to do while living in Richmond.
